Do you have 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 bad writing habit?
If you were to review a procedure or report you had written in the last 6 months, would you find paragraph after paragraph of just text?
𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗯𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 is a sure way to lose your readers. Why is that?
👉 Information can be buried in paragraphs
👉 Order of tasks can be confused in sentence form
👉 It's hard to look at for very long
👉 There's often no sign post text, so navigation is difficult If what you have written should be read by others to perform a task, you're not making it very easy for them!
What's the bet that they won't bother and just do the task they way they think it should be. That's a great way to introduce bias, contradiction, confusion and non-conformances.
So it's super important to think about how you write and whether it is user-friendly for the end user. In my new upcoming course, I talk about this and more tips on Writing User-Friendly Procedures. Look out for announcements soon!
