As a leader, that's not a very good thing! Being visible, at different levels of the company, helps with employee engagement.
I am a strong advocate for doing frequent Gemba walks on a site:
🎯Schedule them in your calendar!
🎯Stop and meet people
🎯Ask questions
🎯Point out improvements
🎯Stop poor practices Etc etc.
As a leader, being present in the plant for all to see you, means they get to know you. And relationships are key to being a good leader.
If nobody knows who you are, why would they listen to you? Influencing for a quality culture by being where it all happens, means you are dealing with issues either before they arise or in real time.
That means things don't need to go up and down the chain of command... the 'command' is standing there! Promoting a quality culture by being visible can be formal, informal, in a group or one on one. And it also means there is a two way conversation - people will start to ask your advice or raise a concern with you. It's good for influencing and engagement. Have you scheduled your next Gemba walk yet?
