It translates to πππ©πͺππ‘ π₯π‘πππ, where the action happens.
π₯ Where members of the organization create value
πͺ Where improvement behaviors are practiced
π― Where progress is measured And where the top management's presence is needed!
Gemba is a well-defined element in LEAN principles and accepted within OPEX as a very useful tool to improve productivity. But it can also be used promote a quality culture and all things compliance. As I've said previously... quality, compliance and operational excellence all go hand in hand.
They are not mutually exclusive. 'Right first time' works for all aspects of the business. So, what is a Gemba walk? It's where top managers and leaders do a walk-through of part of the organisation to support and engage with personnel on the shop floor (or laboratory, warehouse etc.). Going where the action is.
So that issues or improvements can be identified as they happen, reducing lag time, waste, frustration. And of course, boosting efficiency, production and most importantly, engaging with all levels of the orgnisation, building working relationships. And getting leaders out of segregated offices and into the facility.
Leaders, are you where the action happens? π§πππ πππ§ππ’π‘! Schedule your next Gemba walk. Invite the manager of the area to go with you. Get into the facility and out of your office.
