What's the good of an improvement practice if it isn't actually 𝘱𝘳𝘒𝘀𝘡π˜ͺ𝘀𝘦π˜₯ regularly?

Many companies make improvements either on the fly, or after a major event only.

This type of improvement is ad hoc and is not 'continuous'. There is no framework for 'continuous' with this mindset of dealing with issues or inefficiencies. This type of approach is very typical of a company with a poor quality culture, where:

πŸ‘‰ personnel engagement and feeling safe to speak up is low

πŸ‘‰ knowledge sharing between levels in the organisation rarely happens. A continuous improvement framework requires: 1. Standard work practices (or your company may do this with SOPs too) 2. Active sponsorship by top management to implement improvements. To move to a continuous improvement mindset requires getting away from reactive changes to preventative discussion and implementation of improvements. And a good way to trigger these behaviours is to put a system or process in place to funnel behaviours in a helpful direction. The following processes are very useful to boost your quality culture towards proactive continuous improvements:

πŸ‘‰ A process for identifying improvement opportunities, feedback, suggestions

πŸ‘‰ Investigation teams that are skilled at problem-solving, analysing data and information

πŸ‘‰ A Gemba process - see some of my previous post for more on this

πŸ‘‰ Proactive performance management system to measure whats actually important to compliance and OPEX

πŸ‘‰ A reward and recognition system

πŸ‘‰ A learning and development program (in addition to standard QMS training on systems and processes)
