If you were to review a procedure or report you had written in the last 6 months, would you find paragraph after paragraph of just text?
๐ช๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ถ๐ป ๐ต๐๐ด๐ฒ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ is a sure way to lose your readers. Why is that?
๐ Information can be buried in paragraphs
๐ Order of tasks can be confused in sentence form
๐ It's hard to look at for very long
๐ There's often no sign post text, so navigation is difficult If what you have written should be read by others to perform a task, you're not making it very easy for them!
What's the bet that they won't bother and just do the task they way they think it should be. That's a great way to introduce bias, contradiction, confusion and non-conformances.
So it's super important to think about how you write and whether it is user-friendly for the end user. In my new upcoming course, I talk about this and more tips on Writing User-Friendly Procedures. Look out for announcements soon!
