What if I told you that one sentence was all that was required ❓❓❓
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴? Some writers think they have to put everything in the first section so that it gets read. Actually, that's a good way for the reader to ignore your Purpose section and just flip over the page to find what they're looking for.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿? This isn't a trick question! It's to tell the reader what the document is intended for. Don't include the scope (unless your company combines them... then it's 2-3 sentences. But better to keep purpose and scope separate).
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁? So that the reader absorbs the info quickly and so they can get to the 'good' bit... the info they are looking for, probably in the body of the process.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝘆? Try this format... "The purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure is to describe the process for... 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘩 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘩 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘩 (try repeating your title - if your title is well written and has a verb in it!)... according to GMP/GxP/ISO13485 at the [company name] facility.
For example: "The purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure is to describe the process for introducing (VERB) new equipment to the XXXX Melbourne facility." The name of the SOP would be (drum roll please)....
Introducing New Equipment to the Facility. Super simple! That's it! Move on to the Scope section. LOL Need some help with that??
